
田中清代 (Kiyo Tanaka)
1972年生まれ。多摩美術大学絵画科卒業。在学中より銅版画と絵本の制作を始める。1995年以降絵本作家として活動。作・絵の作品・挿絵多数。「トマトさん」「おばけがこわいことこちゃん」「いってかえって 星から星へ」「ねえ だっこして」「ひみつのカレーライス」等がロングセラーとなる。
2018年の「くろいの」で、2019年韓国NAMIコンクール・パープルアイランド賞、第68回小学館児童出版文化賞、第25回日本絵本賞大賞を受賞。
モノクロ及び手彩色銅版画による温かみのある画風で、独特の世界観を表現しつづけている。静岡県伊東市在住。

Born in Kanagawa, Kiyo studied oil painting and print making at Tama Art University in Tokyo. Her first children’s book Mizutama no Chihuahua (‘The polka-dot Chihuahua’ text by Areno Inoue) (Fukuinkan Shoten), and also as a writer, Okiniri (‘My Favorite’ illustrated by the author) (Child Honsha) both were published in 1997. Since then she’s enjoyed considerable success as a children’s book author and illustrator while continuing to produce and exhibit print works throughout Japan. For her illustrations she uses a technique of copper plate printing on Japanese paper. She has participated twice in the illustrators’ exhibition at the Bologna Book Fair (Italy) in 1995 and 1996, as well as the Biennial of Illustrations in Bratislava (Slovakia) in 2001, 2003 and 2011, 2019.
Her illustrations for the latest work “Kuroino”(“The Black Thing” Written and illustrated by the author, 2018) won an award “Purple Island” at the NAMI Concours in South Korea, 2019. It also selected among the 3 best children’s books for Sogakkan children’s books publication award, 2019. In 2020, it got the grand prize of the 25th Japan Picture-book Award.
